PIP & telehealth essentials.
An orientation for clinic coordinators. These points do not replace case-specific clinical, billing or legal review.
The initial-care timing requirement
Florida’s PIP statute requires qualifying initial services and care within 14 days after the accident for medical benefits. Booking an appointment alone does not establish that qualifying care occurred. § 627.736(1)(a), Florida Statutes.
EMC is a clinical determination
Emergency medical condition findings affect the statutory medical-benefit framework. An evaluation does not guarantee an EMC finding or payment. Keep clinical assessment independent of a desired insurance result. § 627.736(1)(a)3–4.
The standard of care still applies
Florida’s telehealth statute requires care consistent with the prevailing professional standard of practice. Whether a particular patient can be appropriately evaluated remotely depends on the clinical circumstances. § 456.47(2), Florida Statutes.
The clinic’s practical role
Under the FloridaPIPdoctor service model, the patient attends from the licensed clinic with staff assistance. The coordinator prepares intake, consent and available records before the visit. The physician signs the encounter report; the clinic files it and handles its own coding, claims and collections.
